We are a cohesive group practice working as a team. The doctors often consult with each other on difficult cases. We recommend you attend one particular doctor but continuity of care will still be maintained by seeing any of the doctors if your own is unavailable. We aim to treat you as a whole person taking into consideration your family, attitudes, occupation and lifestyle, not just treating your presenting medical problem in isolation.

What to do when we are closed:
After Hours - When the surgery is closed, please ring 9439 2222, the answering machine will inform you of the appropriate phone number to contact the Locum Service. The Austin Hospital has the nearest Emergency facility. Long delays often occur for non-life threatening conditions. A Casualty Department is also available at Epworth Hospital (Private Health Cover is advised when using this service).

Home Visits:
Home vists are an integral part of the family medical practice and have always been part of our service. If a home visit is necessary, please ring the clinic early in the day if possible, as home visits are usually made between 1.00pm - 2.00pm. In an emergency, the doctor will visit at home as soon as possible. The doctors can also visit patients in hospitals and nursing homes.

Repeat Prescriptions:
As a general rule, repeat prescriptions are issued as part of a normal consultation. If you have a chronic medical condition requiring medication, we recommend you see a doctor at regular intervals for check ups. Repeat prescriptions requested by phone, may be provided, if appropriate for a fee of $5.00, or by your doctor on a brief consultation basis between scheduled appointments.

Specialist Referrals:
If a patient needs a new or an updated letter of referral to a specialist, it is necessary for the patient to personally attend the Centre and have a consultation with the doctor.

Reminder System:
We provide a recall system for patients requiring reminders for tests - e.g. Pap smears, Cholesterol, Prostate checks and vaccination boosters.

Test Results:
Always check results of any tests yourself, preferably by ringing after 1.00pm. The receptionists or nurses are able to pass on straightforward results to patients over the phone after discussion with the doctors. Further details about results can be more thoroughly discussed by direct consultation with the doctor at a suitable appointment time.

Telephone Calls:
For the benefit of patients attending sugery, we try to avoid interruption to consultations unless the problem is urgent. In most cases the practice staff will be able to help you with an enquiry. If you need to speak to the doctor, he will return your phone call or ask you to make an appointment for a consultation.
